About Markit
Markit is a map of what's fresh near you: the farm stands, bakers, makers, and market vendors who don't always show up on the big platforms. It's built and run by one person in San Francisco. Here is who, why, and how it works today.
Who's behind Markit
Rahul Bonnerjee
Founder · San Francisco, California
Rahul builds Markit end to end: the iPhone and Android apps, the web map, and the backend behind them. Before Markit he spent seven years shipping production code as a data scientist, after a coding bootcamp and a Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan. Fourteen years ago he sold soup at a farmers market, which is where this started.
Legally, Markit is Rahul Bonnerjee doing business as Markit, based in San Francisco, California. That's the name you'll find in the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Why Markit exists
Fourteen years ago I sold soup at a farmers market. The vendors around me made great things and had no good way to tell anyone about them; shoppers kept asking questions no app could answer. That gap stuck with me.
I spent the decade since learning to build software, and in 2026 I shipped the thing I wished existed. Producers pin their spot on the map, list what's in stock, and get found by neighbors searching for exactly that. Shoppers see who has what before they leave the house.
A map of local producers is worth exactly as much as the trust behind it. So this page says plainly who runs Markit and how it makes money, and I'd rather make promises with the people who use it than to them. If you grow, bake, or make something and want a hand in shaping this, write to me.

How Markit works today
This describes Markit as it runs right now, not a roadmap.
Listing is free
Producers pin a place, add photos and hours, and list what's in stock with prices. Shoppers search the map for a product and see who nearby has it. Free for producers and shoppers alike, on the web, iPhone, and Android.
Markit Pro is the only paid product
An optional subscription for producers. It unlocks the Producer Dashboard: what people near you are searching for and when, how your prices compare with similar listings nearby, and your order revenue. Demand appears as aggregated counts, not as individual people. Pro subscriptions are Markit's only revenue today.
Orders go through Square
Sellers who connect a Square account can take pickup orders on Markit. Buyers pay in that seller's own Square checkout, so the money goes to the seller, and Markit takes no cut of orders today. In-person Square sales keep the map's stock counts current.
Trust and safety
Every uploaded photo is screened automatically. Any place, product, or profile can be reported from the apps or the web map; Rahul reviews every report, and there's an appeal path. Markit doesn't sell personal information and shows no ads today. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what's collected and why.
